CHARLESTON, SC – Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) will open the renovated Edisto Island Library, located at 1589 Hwy 174 at Trinity Church on Edisto Island, on Monday, Oct. 7. The public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. at the branch.

The Edisto Island Library closed in April of this year to undergo renovations as part of the ongoing $108.5 million referendum-funded project passed by Charleston County voters in 2014 to build five new libraries and renovate all existing branches. Updates included new paint and furniture. During the closure, the branch operated a nearby temporary location that offered limited services. This location will close at 1 p.m. on Sept. 21 in preparation of the reopening of the renovated branch.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will include speakers from the library and Charleston County Government, as well as elected officials. In addition to the ribbon cutting, patrons will have the opportunity to meet the branch staff, take pictures with CCPL’s mascot Owlbert, explore the branch, and more.

The Edisto Island Library was the first branch library to open within the Charleston County Public Library system. Sponsored by the PTA and originally located in the school auditorium, the library opened June 18, 1931. The current library is located in the hall of Trinity Church.
