Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary Exhibit
CCPL, along with Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary and NOAA invite you to explore our oceans with topics about ocean conservation, marine life, and fishing and scuba diving happening at the sanctuary.
From May 3 - July 23 the Main Library and Baxter-Patrick James Island Library will host travelling exhibits about Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary, a live-bottom reef off Georgia’s coast teeming with diverse and abundant marine life. Explore the exhibits to learn more about this unique ecosystem and the way it is connected to the tidal marshes of our coasts and rivers.
Public programs will accompany the exhibit in June and July - check out the schedule below!
SC Aquarium Rovers [all ages]
Join the South Carolina Aquarium Rovers for an all-ages program introducing you to some of our marine neighbors! The beaches of South Carolina provide habitat to a variety of cool and unique marine invertebrates. During this interactive program, you'll learn about native beach dwellers that call our beaches home.
Main Library: Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Baxter Patrick James Island Library: Saturday, July 6, from 10-11 a.m.
Guest Lectures [Adults]
Join our speakers to learn more about this fascinating ocean park teeming with life. The natural live-bottom habitats of the sanctuary are representative of others across the region. The sanctuary provides year-round opportunities for sport fishing, recreational diving, and boating. The research area within the sanctuary hosts one of the only designated no-take zones in the region, which makes Gray's Reef a catalyst for scientific research studying water quality, ocean noise, hurricane prediction, and climate change.
