Main Library - Girls in grades 6-12 will learn the basics of journalism from local women in the field. In identifying the topics that are important to them, participants can develop an appreciation for their place in their community and their role as storytellers. Participants will gain insight into the ways that journalism can transform lives and drive change. In this week-long camp, participants will also explore journalism as a career choice, and learn about unique challenges facing women in the profession. Instructors include current and former journalists of the Post and Courier, ABC News 4, News 2 and Live 5 News. Participants will also get the chance to ask questions of national news correspondent Soledad O’Brien during a Skype Q&A session and end the week by producing a written article or broadcast news item. (Note: Soledad O'Brien had a scheduling conflict and had to cancel this Skype appearance. However, we will be joined via Skype by Christine Brennan, who writes columns on national and international sports issues for USA Today.) Space is limited, and registration is required. Please register below, or call 843-805-6903 or email [email protected].
