Examines drug use among Indian university students as a subcultural phenomenon. Suggests that, although drug users' interaction with other drug users fulfills a prerequisite for the existence of a subculture, users' awareness, beliefs, and attitudes concerning drug use and control generally are not consistent with the assumptions of subcultural theory.
