    • Abstract:
This study explored how parents or caregivers of adolescents or adults with mild intellectual disabilities described the influence of faith communities on the Quality of Life (QOL) and its domains of spiritual, social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of their loved ones in this population in South-Central Florida. The QOL model that steered this research was Ferrans' who revised previous models to include how an individual's environment influences QOL and the above domains. Research questions asked parents or caregivers of adolescents or adults with mild intellectual disabilities to describe the influence faith communities had on the spiritual, social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of their loved ones in this population. This study recruited 14 participants from agrarian locations; ten participants responded to individual semi-structured interviews and four participated in a focus group. Thematic analysis uncovered relevant patterns and themes. Analysis of data revealed that the domain mostly influenced within faith communities is social wellbeing because most activities within these settings involve much socialization. In conclusion, findings described that spiritual or religious settings do influence the QOL of individuals with mild intellectual disabilities, both positively and negatively.
