    • Abstract:
Membership projections, which are calculated using average daily membership in conjunction with cohort survival procedure, are produced annually in South Carolina to give insight into trends within the state and individual school districts. By the 1998-99 school year, average daily membership for kindergarten through grade 12 in South Carolina public schools is projected to reach 660,900, an increase of about 32,800 (5.2%) over the 1992-93 level. From 1988-89 to 1992-93, the average increase has been about 3,800 students per year. Increases are expected at the elementary and high school levels, with a leveling off in the middle schools during the next 6 years. It is expected that the membership of 58 districts will increase and that of 33 will decline. Data also indicate that the percent of school completers entering college increased from about 44% in 1982 to 55% in 1992. (Contains 7 figures, 13 tables, and 9 references.) (SLD)
