Abstract: This guide for aviation pilot training begins with a course description, resource information, and a course outline. Tasks/competencies are categorized into 12 concept/duty areas: understanding safe procedures in the flight environment; understanding safe procedures in the airport environment; understanding Federal Aviation Regulations concerning controlled, uncontrolled, and special use airspace; understanding the use of aircraft radio communications; understanding basic procedures for preflight, start, and taxi for a typical light aircraft; understanding the effect of weather on flight performance; interpreting written weather data; interpreting graphic weather data; understanding basic navigational charts; operating the slide graphic computer; and understanding three basic navigational methods. Four to nine tasks are listed for each concept/duty. A performance objective, criterion-referenced measure, and enabling objective are provided for each task/competency. At the end of each concept/duty category, resources are listed by task. The final assignment calls for passing the Federal Aviation Administration's Private Pilot Written Tests. (YLB)
