    • Abstract:
This publication is produced to give some insight into the enrollment trends for the state of South Carolina and for its individual school districts. Various charts and tables are presented in an effort to make the projections useful to educators in developing plans for the future. Figures show the total state enrollment for grades K-12 between 1975-76 and 1985-86, as well as for private and public school enrollment for the same grades and time period, and for public school enrollment for that time period for grades K-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Tables show public and private school enrollment between 1975-76 and 1985-86; public school enrollment by grade for that period; a summary of 180-day enrollment for public schools by district and year between 1975-76 and 1985-86, as well as 180-day enrollment for each year between 1978-79 and 1985-86; fall enrollment for private schools by county and year from 1975-76 through 1978-79; and a comparison of actual and projected enrollments by district. End-of-the-year enrollments by grade and fall 45-day average daily memberships for 1978 and 1979, by grade as reported to the department of education, were used in conjunction with the cohort survival procedure in deriving the public school enrollment projections.
