    • Abstract:
Intermittent auscultation is the recommended method of assessing the fetal heart rate in low-risk laboring women, yet continuous electronic fetal monitoring remains widespread in clinical practice. Using intermittent auscultation as the standard for low-risk laboring women would decrease the risks and costs associated with interventions for this population and help to bring back the naturalness of labor and closeness with women. It is also of the utmost importance for maternity healthcare practitioners and professionals not to forget to continually educate patients on best practices so they can make informed decisions.
