The Burden of Historical Representation: The Case of/for Indigenous Film.

Case studies of the films "La battaglia di Algeri," Indigènes," "Smoke Signals," and "The Only Good Indian" are presented in an attempt to apply a historical representation framework to what may be indigenous films or films about indigenous people. The article discusses the narratives and genre of the films, the characters and perspectives of the films, their aesthetics of place and worldview, and production and distribution. The article also examines the analysis of the films as a potential for classroom discussion and study.
