    • Abstract:
The article discusses the impact of aerial spraying of pesticides on the health of pregnant women. Mancozeb is a pesticide sprayed on bananas to prevent a fungal disease called black sigatoka; and it has been found that pregnant women who live near banana plantations in Costa Rica have increased levels of ethylene thiourea (ETU) in their urine, and ETU is a metabolite of mancozeb. Research has shown that ETU adversely affects fetal brain cell development, and disrupts thyroid function.
