The article offers information on the brittle fractures arising in the equipments used in the refining and petrochemical industries. It discusses the impact of temperature on metals constituting the machinery and states that under environmental and mechanical stress, metals do not show ductility or plastic deformation. It states that the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) ensure that equipments in refineries are designed, maintained and inspected in a safe manner.
