      The article discusses a competitive lease sale for renewable energy in federal waters by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) which offered nearly 80,000 acres offshore Maryland for wind energy development. According to the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Maryland Wind Energy Area located in Ocean City, Maryland can support between 850 and 1450 Megawatt (MW) of commercial wind generation.
