    • Abstract:
Sarnoff Corp. and Cinea Inc., the two leaders in preventing camcorder taping of movies, have joined forces to develop new technological weapons in the war on one of the most rudimentary and prevalent forms of film piracy. β€œThe Hollywood film studios estimate this illegal activity costs the U.S. industry $3 billion a year.” The technology the partners are devising accomplishes two things: It causes the videotaped copy to be of very poor quality, and it adds an identifying watermark that is only visible on the copy. Key to the collaboration is that digital content security specialist Cinea will receive an exclusive license to camera-defeating technology already developed by video and electronic innovator Sarnoff.
