- Abstract: An essay is presented on how 20th-century British author George Orwell might have viewed the question of Scottish independence, in the context of upcoming referendum on the issue. The author outlines the arguments for Scottish independence made by the Scottish National Party (SNP) under party leader Alex Salmond and suggests how Orwell would view them. Topics include national identity, the dominance of London, England, in British politics, and economic shifts.
