    • Abstract:
      The article relates the author's experiences travelling to and in the nation of Albania in the spring of 1997. Armed gangs had been seizing everything that would float for a trip to Italy. The assailants seemed nervous while the ferry captain remains expectant rather than scared. However, they were able to reach Saranda. Their arrival was greeted with gunfire but no immigration or customs officials. Saranda was serene, which is unusual for a city torn by anarchy. Couples strolled along the beach and men walked aimlessly or sat on benches.
