- Abstract:
The article describes the results of a study led by virologist Stephen Hughes on how HIV is able to remain dormant in cells for decades that was published in the June 26, 2014 issue of "Science." The team reports that HIV infects white blood cells, or leucocytes, called CD4+ T, and if the virus attaches to the DNA segment controlling replication, it can spread through clonal expansion, reproducing itself and living for over a decade despite antiviral drugs.
