The article discusses the history of the town of Bethlehem, notable as the birthplace of Jesus Christ, considering it as an Arab-Palestinian town, a Roman Catholic town, as well as a global town. It is located in the the Occupied Territories of the West Bank. Under Islamic rule beginning in 637, the town maintain separate places of worship for both Christians and Muslims. Other topics include Palestinian identity in the 19th and 20th century, Palestinian popular culture, and the 1929 Palestine Arab Women's Congress.
