      The article contends that taxpayer-financed sports stadiums in the U.S., such as the one George Steinbrenner is demanding, enrich sports teams and owners at the public's expense. The New York Mets baseball team are suggesting that a $100 million for stadium with retractable dome, would keep them from moving out to Long Island suburbs. Stadium socialism is a serious problem in the country. Maryland taxpayers are being socked for almost $300 million to finance a new stadium for the Washington Redskins and a new stadium for the former Cleveland Browns. However, the public does not support such plans, despite the popularity of professional sports.
