- Abstract:
Highlights: [•] Oral polio vaccine (OPV) may have non-specific effects on infant mortality. [•] In Guinea-Bissau a small thymus at birth is a risk factor for subsequent mortality. [•] We examined the effect of not receiving OPV at birth on subsequent thymic size. [•] No-OPV increased thymus/weight index but not thymic index after 2 weeks. [•] No effect was seen on thymic size after 4 or 6 weeks, the effect seems temporary. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
