Reforming HUD.

The article calls for the abolition of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as the answer to welfare reform. The author argues that failure of HUD in providing subsidized housing is a reason for its abolition. The policies of HUD have increasingly segregated the poorest of the poor from working families and enhanced the financial benefits of not working. Furthermore, developers often fail to maintain their property so that they can eventually collect large subsidies for repairs. Its housing programs have gone forward unabated primarily because they have served entrenched political interests.
