      Fernando León de Aranoa started making films in the mid-1990s, a time of constant economic growth and general euphoria in Spain and a far cry from the current situation. However, the director doesn't focus on the big picture; instead, he does on the unique and the marginal, reflecting and anticipating the crisis situation that would come about a few years later. This precursory nature is what makes of the oeuvre of the director from Madrid an interesting case to study. Even though he shot four of his five feature films prior to the economic recession and only one of them was shot after the housing bubble in Spain had burst, it begs the question as to whether the works of the filmmaker are still ground-breaking or if, with the economic change, they've become exhausted and out-of-date.       La obra del cineasta español Fernando León de Aranoa nace en un momento, a mediados de la década de 1990, en el que el crecimiento económico de España es constante y existe una euforia colectiva muy alejada de la situación actual. Aun así, la mirada del director no se centra en lo general sino que se dirige a la singularidad y a la marginalidad reflejando y anticipando la situación de crisis que se dará unos años más tarde. De sus cinco largometrajes, cuatro son anteriores a la recesión económica y sólo uno es posterior al estallido de la burbuja inmobiliaria en España, por lo que cabe preguntarse si el discurso del cineasta sigue siendo rompedor o si con el cambio económico el modelo está agotado. El carácter precursor de su obra es lo que la singulariza como caso interesante para su estudio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
