- Abstract:
The article argues in favor of the observations of historian Stephen Ambrose on the significance of the invasion of Normandy, France by allied forces during World War II. The heroism demonstrated by the U.S. troops and their allies served a noble purpose, that of eliminating the dominance of Nazi Germany in Western Europe. The success of the invasion was not attributed to the liberal and democratic background of the U.S. military. The U.S. military and its allies who attacked Normandy served great ends.
