Of Brahmins and Dalits in the Academic Caste System.

The article argues that business-based policies have replaced academic principles at U.S. colleges and universities and that there is a growing distinction between faculty members who are eligible for tenure and those who are not. Topics discussed include economic and other challenges facing part-time lecturers, the efforts of the California Faculty Association (CFA) to secure benefits for lecturers in the state's university system, and the use of collective bargaining to effect change.
