- Abstract:
The article discusses the influence of French historian of mathematics Paul Tannery and of German mathematician Felix Klein on the historiography of mathematics in Belgium and the Netherlands. The approaches to the history of mathematics taken by Tannery and by Klein are respectively described and contrasted. Then the article addresses the specifically Belgian and Dutch tradition of writing about the history of mathematics and of the mathematical sciences. A number of researchers and their publications are mentioned but prominence is given to Dutch historian of science and mathematics Eduard J. Dijkhuis.
