- Abstract:
The article investigates how interpretations of species representation of the type employed in human evolution studies hold up in view of interspecific comparisons of a broad array of predators in Upper Pleistocene Italy. The extent to which relative abundances of taxa consumed might indicate differences in food niche among Neandertals and anatomically modern humans, which are two noncontemporary but closely related subspecies of Homo sapiens, and spotted hyenas and wolves, which are two sympatric species of large social carnivores.
