The article discusses the prevalence of parasitic diseases in U.S. citizens that traditionally plague other regions of the world, such as Chagas disease. Topics include the link between poverty and disease, the impact of so-called neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) on economic development, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi) based in Geneva, Switzerland, and how climate change is exacerbating the problem of NTDs.
