- Abstract:
The article supports initiatives of Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori to effect political reforms through a self-coup or autogolpe. This autogolpe sees the suspension of the congress and parts of the country's constitution, and the firing of judges. And the public, it seems is supporting him. Two years since Fujimore assumes office, the economy is finally moving, with inflation decreased to 50% from 7,650%, debt service resumed and state enterprises privatized. He also made progress in controlling the insurgents and other armed resistance. His only fault might be the lack of preparation to explain these progress abroad.
