    • Abstract:
THE wonderful Doris Day isn't 91 but 89 (Mail) and will be 90 on April 3 next year when there will no doubt be celebrations in Carmel, California. She didn't win an Oscar for singing Que Sera Sera in Pillow Talk, it was the song which won the Oscar. She should have won the Oscar for her roles in Love Me Or Leave Me or The Man Who Knew Too Much, in which she was utterly fantastic. Later in life, she was nominated for an Honorary Oscar but refused it saying: 'If they couldn't give it to me while I was acting, I don't want it now.' She finally retired from films and TV after screening Doris Day's Best Friends on the Christian Broadcasting Network from 1975 to 1986. These shows were never shown on a U.S. national network and we in the UK didn't have access to them, but she was hardly a 'recluse' while she was making TV shows and many charity appearances to aid her horse sanctuary and four dogs' homes.
