      Health care reform has been a controversial, debated topic in the U.S. for a century, and during this century of debates, nearly every presidential administration proposed a health care reform bill. This article explores the history of health care reform in the U.S. and current struggles of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) identities recommendations for health care reform from other professions, outlines the health education profession's involvement in health care reform and policy advocacy, and provides opportunities within the ACA for health education professionals to increase their involvement in health care reform advocacy to impact the health status of Americans in a positive way.
