    • Abstract:
The article discusses the cross-cultural evaluation of Oneota Indians' agricultural production. The researcher compares the modified Malthusian model with a modified Boserupian model to explain why Middle Mississippian has lesser agricultural development than Upper Mississippian in the prehistoric times. It was in the agricultural management and not in the length of growing season and amount of precipitation that these two regions differ in development of agriculture. Agricultural management of the two regions lays answer on the question of population densities variation within the territory of the U.S. It was said that food shortage caused by climatic deterioration and intertribal hostilities forced the people to emigrate from one place to another.
