    • Abstract:
This chapter describes surviving an earthquake. Earthquakes can not be predicted, but scientists have some methods they use to attempt predicting them. The seismic gap method is described. Scientists believe the next big earthquake to hit the U.S. will be along the San Andreas Fault. People should avoid tall buildings, power lines, and overpasses during earthquakes. People who live where earthquakes often occur should make preparations. Buildings can be constructed to withstand earthquakes.
