Calderón's government established a relatively modest, low-profile policy of developing closer ties with Latin America -- with goals that were limited in scope -- in order to provide an immediate response to some of the problems inherited from the previous administration and to retrieve platforms for dialogue. This paper briefly describes Mexico's foreign policy towards Latin America during the longstanding pri regime and the six years of rule by Vicente Fox; it sketches out the external scenario for Mexico and its principal challenges in the Latin American region; it sets out the domestic context for Mexico since Calderón's assumption of the presidency; it reviews the economic agenda for Mexico and the region; and it analyzes the political agenda for Mexico and Latin America during the Calderón administration. El gobierno de Calderón planteó una política de acercamiento hacia América Latina de bajo perfil público, relativamente modesta y con objetivos acotados principalmente para dar respuesta inmediata a algunos de los problemas heredados de la administración anterior y recuperar espacios. El artículo describe brevemente la política exterior de México hacia América Latina durante el régimen priista y los seis años de Vicente Fox; dibuja el escenario externo para México y sus principales retos en la región latinoamericana; plantea el contexto interno de México a partir de la llegada de Calderón a la presidencia; revisa la agenda económica entre México y la región; y analiza la agenda política entre México y América Latina durante la administración de Calderón. Pour rapprocher le Mexique du reste de l'Amérique latine, le gouvernement de Calderón a proposé une politique peu bruyante, plutôt limitée et aux buts précis, notamment celui de répondre à des problèmes hérités du gouvernement précédent et celui de récupérer l'espace perdu. Lfarticle fait allusion à la politique étrangère du Mexique pour cette région le long du régime du pri et sous le gouvernement de Fox. Il dépeint la scène internationale et les grands défis pour le Mexique en Amérique latine, il trace la situation interne du Mexique lors de l'arrivée de Calderón à la présidence, il passe en revue les intérêts économiques du Mexique dans la région et il analyse, enfin, les buts politiques de ce gouvernement vis-à-vis de ses voisins d'Amérique latine.
