    • Abstract:
The article discusses the potential of ribonucleic acid (RNA) interference (RNAi) to treat transthyretin amyloidosis, a rare liver disease. It references a study by Teresa Coelho et al. of the Hospital de Santo Antonio in Portugal published in "The New England Journal of Medicine" on August 28, 2013. Twenty-four transthyretin amyloidosis patients were infused with a small interfering RNA (siRNA) under the study. It was found that siRNA treatment lowered transthyretin levels in the patients.
