    • Abstract:
As the technical services librarian for St. Mark's School of Texas, I had the task of managing the selection and usage of the online subscription resources. When I began working for the library in 1998, there were about 10 subscription database services in our school's visual library. Now, the library offers more than 30.This article explains the steps our library team took and how we used them to build our virtual library. I hope they will help you to choose the best online resources for your virtual library and its budget. We were able to demonstrate specific ways that the resources provided the school community with easier access to information around campus and at home, enhanced library reference services and resource management services, and furnished more library space.Using Web-based subscription resources met our library needs, but how were we able to acquire so many online resources on our budget? Networking provides opportunities for you to learn about what's available and compare products. Joining a consortium can increase your resources and save you money!
