      The article discusses Islamic terrorist organizations in Mali and the Sahel region in the early 2010s, including the terrorist groups Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO). The relationship between the violence committed by Islamic terrorist groups and the global terrorist organization Al-Qaeda is discussed. An overview of the relationship between the governments of the Sahel region, including the Algeria and Mali, and Islamic terrorism in the region is provided.
