The article discusses the role of beta-catenin and CCN matricellular proteins in inflammatory lung injury. Cell culture experiments have shown that p300/beta-catenin axis in lung epithelial cells promotes repair after disruption of the epithelial barrier. Beta-catenin plays two important roles in the cell: as a transcriptional regulator and as a component in the adherens junction.
