      A biography of Georg, Duke of Calenberg and of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, is presented. The author outlines the historical background of Georg's life, including such aspects as the Protestant Reformation, political and sectarian conflict in the Holy Roman Empire, and the Thirty Years' War. Georg's role and significance in the creation of a modern state in the territory of Braunschweig-Lüneburg is also discussed.
