The article reports that a bloodstream infection or sepsis has a huge mortality rate that is associated with bloodstream infections. It discusses culturing patient blood for pathogen identification in an automated monitoring system and followed by gram stain and sub-culturing. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS)analysis is used to analyze the diagnosis of bloodstream infection. The technological advances in bloodstream infection diagnostics will also improve clinical laboratory workflow.
