- Abstract:
The article discusses treatment methods for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of blindness in the U.S. The most common risk factors of AMD are age and genetics, with cigarette smoking also considered a risk factor. The condition comes in either wet or dry form, with the former characterized by abnormal blood vessels that grow underneath the retina. Vitamin therapy is said to help alleviate the dry form, while photodynamic therapy is used for the wet form.
