- Abstract:
An essay is presented on the role of assimilation in the works of Cherokee writer John Milton Oskison. Particular focus is given to Oskison's writings on education and Native American values. It is suggested that while Oskison did not believe that Native Americans needed to assimilate fully into U.S. society, he thought they should develop the skills to be self-sustaining and economically independent within its frameworks, making contributions equal to those of white Americans.
