    • Abstract:
      The article is devoted to a wide and diverse subgroup of material sources, namely clothing. The purpose of the article is to find out the informative capacity of clothing as a historical source or the extension and variety of information a researcher could obtain by analysing this subgroup of material sources. The article explores the connecting link between clothing and an individual and its significance in the study of history of the society, as well as provides a characterization of the potential informative layers included in clothing and the possibilities of their use in historical studies. The selected examples mainly focus on archaeologists' researches into the subject under consideration supplemented also by conclusions of ethnologists, art historians, philosophers and fashion industry experts.       Raksts ir veltīts plašai un daudzveidīgai lietisko avotu apakšgrupai -- apģērbam. Raksta mērķis ir noskaidrot apģērba kā vēstures avota informatīvo kapacitāti jeb to, cik plašu un daudzveidīgu informāciju pētnieks varētu iegūt, analizējot šo lietisko avotu apakšgrupu. Rakstā ir aplūkota apģērba saikne ar indivīdu un tā nozīme sabiedrības vēstures izpētē, kā arī sniegts apģērbā ietverto iespējamo informatīvo slāņu raksturojums un to izmantošanas iespējas vēstures izpētē. Piemēriem galvenokārt izmantoti arheologu pētījumi par aplūkojamo tēmu, ko papildina etnologu, mākslas vēsturnieku, filozofu, psihologu un modes industrijas speciālistu atziņas.
