- Abstract:
The article looks at the academic study of tattoos, as of 2013. It describes the work of art historians and tattoo scholars Gemma Angel and Matt Lodder, including Angel's study of tattoos on corpses. It discusses a 2012 London, England, exhibition of the work of Japanese tattoo artist Horiyoshi III, noting his work is in irezumi, or tattoos using traditional motifs. Tattoos as an art form and the anthropological meaning of tattooing are discussed.
