      The article discusses Poland's Presidency in the Council of the European Union (CEU), which begins in 2011, with focus given to the way in which the European Union's (EU) 2009 Treaty of Lisbon impacts the Presidency. The author explains the role of the Presidency in mediating discussions between member states and acting as a representative of the EU. Also addressed are the priorities Poland will need to embrace during its tenure as President, which include improving European higher education, an industrial policy that reflects economic globalization, and reforming European energy policy.
