      The article discusses research on preoperative blood transfusion alternatives for patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). It describes necessity of surgery for SCD patients and rate of perioperative complications of the disorder. It reports study procedures which include enrollment of patients with the haemoglobin SS subtype, administration of blood transfusion, and recording of adverse effects.
