    • Abstract:
The article looks at the guest workers in the U.S., as of 2013. It profiles the working conditions of guest workers at Louisiana crawfish processing company CJ's Seafood, describing low pay, forced overtime, and threats of violence used as a disciplinary measure. It recounts the efforts of some of the workers to organize, with assistance from the National Guestworker Alliance advocacy group. It notes the workers' campaign highlighted the role of retail chain Wal-Mart, which was the purchaser of the company's seafood. It discusses the lack of legal protections for guest workers and says their circumstances suggest the direction in which all U.S. labor is going as labor organizing has become increasingly difficult.
