- Abstract:
The author describes how the execution of nine prisoners from the Mile 2 penitential facility in Gambia, as ordered by the country's leader Yahya Jammeh on August 29, 2012, has provoked an outcry among anti-capital punishment activists across the world. However, he argues that the strong emphasis placed by human rights advocates on the abolition of capital punishment in Gambia does little to end the forced disappearances, unexplained murders, and other abuses perpetrated by the Jammeh regime.
