      The article discusses the relationship between patriotism, national identity, and allegiance. Particular focus is given to debates over the value of patriotism and its place in the 21st century. According to the author, patriotism can be seen as loyalty to a concept of one's country which may be separate from its current political reality. It is suggested that this concept must be informed by the country's history and culture.
