    • Abstract:
With advances in technology, infants are surviving at earlier ages. These small infants require life saving equipment to thrive outside the womb as they adjust to an environment with which they are not developmentally ready to cope. While the NICU environment provides support for these fragile infants, it also poses many risks related to immature physiological systems and an interruption in normal development. In addition, the family structure is affected by this premature delivery. There are many interventions, which will help provide holistic care and facilitate normal development for infant and family in a trajectory toward discharge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
