      A biography of Ellen DeGeneres, an American actor, comedian and talk show host, is presented. She was born on January 26, 1958 in Metarie, Louisiana, to Elliot, an insurance salesman, and Betty, a secretary. She thought of becoming a singer and songwriter when she was a child. Her talent for making people laugh landed a job as a stand-up comedian. She made her television debut in 1986 on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."
